The Specialized Prosecutor's Office and the State Agency for National Security are conducting an investigation into illegal intelligence activities by Bulgarian and Russian citizens in favor of the Russian Federation.

Initiated pre-trial proceedings for a crime under Article 105 of the Penal Code, in which from 2016 to the present Bulgarian citizen has placed himself in the service of a foreign state for the purpose of unregulated transfer of information constituting a state secret

 the Bulgarian citizen - a general from the reserve, who participated in missions outside Bulgaria;

worked in the Ministry of Defense;

had access to classified information concerning the EU and NATO

for Coordination and Transmission of Information - Russian Citizen with Diplomatic Immunity as Counselor at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Sofia

to cover up illegal activities: conspiracy meetings, portable memory cards, encryption devices and cipher coding to communicate with each other.

Investigations carried out:

- searches and seizures are carried out at 2 addresses and cars owned by the Bulgarian citizen

- The SP has sent a notification letter through the Prosecutor General to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for violating the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and establishing unregulated intelligence activity by a representative of the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation in Bulgaria.

We remind you that this is the second pre-trial proceeding initiated in the Prosecutor's Office for espionage in favor of a foreign country.

The previous one was monitored in the Military District Prosecutor's Office and is in the court phase, with a preliminary hearing pending.
