A monument to investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kushnirova, killed four years ago, has been unveiled in Slovakia.

It is located on the central square in the capital Bratislava, BTA reports.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Eduard Heger and the parents of Jan and Martina, who were killed at the age of 27.

Slovakia has sentenced Jan Kuciak's killer to 23 years in prison

The two were shot dead at their home in the village of Velka Macha on February 21, 2018.

So far, three people have been convicted in the murder case, and the perpetrator, a former military man, received 25 years in prison.

In July last year, the Slovak Supreme Court overturned the acquittal of an influential businessman accused of sponsoring the crime.

Kuciak has been investigating high-level corruption cases.

His assassination sparked massive anti-government protests in the country, unprecedented by the Gentle Revolution of 1989. Street demonstrations led to the resignation of Prime Minister Robert Fico's cabin.
