The Kremlin has announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to recognize the independence of two regions in Ukraine controlled by pro-Russian separatists, writes BBC.

In a press release, the Kremlin announced that Putin has informed the French and German leaders that he plans to sign the decree recognizing Donetsk and Luhansk as independent states, Telegrafi reports.

On the other hand, American security experts have repeatedly warned of a possible invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

Most recently in the Security Council, Putin attempted to make a joke that his US counterpart had privately promised him that he would not allow Ukraine to join NATO, which was categorically denied by the White House.
