NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has condemned Russia's actions in recognizing two pro-Russian separatist-held regions in eastern Ukraine - Dontesk and Luhansk - as "just undermining" the move. more sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, writes CNN.

"I condemn Russia's decision to recognize Donetsk and Luhansk as states in Ukraine.

"This only further undermines Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity - and undermines the efforts of the Minks resolution, which has been violated by Russia."

"Stoltenberg blames Russia for inciting the conflict in eastern Ukraine, which financially and militarily supports the separatists," adding that Moscow was also "trying to find a pretext for invading Ukraine."

I condemn #Russia recognition of Donetsk / Luhansk in #Ukraine.

It erodes efforts to resolve the conflict & violates Minsk agreements.

#NATO supports Ukraine sovereignty & territorial integrity.

We urge Moscow to stop fueling conflict & choose diplomacy.

"In 2015, the United Nations Security Council - including Russia - reiterated that Ukraine's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity would be respected.

"Donetsk and Luhansk are part of Ukraine," Stoltenberg said.

The head of the Alliance expressed support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within the existing borders that are already internationally recognized.
