Bengaluru:

There is a lot of tension in Shivamogga city of Karnataka after the murder of a worker of Hinduist organization Bajrang Dal.

The miscreants have set many vehicles on fire inside the city and have also vandalized and pelted stones at many places.

After the incident, as a precautionary measure, Section 144 has been imposed in the city.

Police has given this information.

Important information related to the case:

  • Harsha, a 26-year-old Bajrang Dal worker who worked as a tailor, was stabbed by unidentified persons at around 9 pm yesterday (Sunday, February 20), leaving him grievously injured.

    He was later taken to the hospital but could not survive.

  • Following the attack, angry people torched several vehicles in the area.

    The police have deployed heavy force in the area to stop the arson.

    Apart from this, the administration has banned public gatherings.

    The administration has ordered the closure of schools and colleges till further orders.

    Despite the ban, a huge crowd of Bajrang Dal supporters were seen accompanying the youth while taking the body home.

  • State Home Minister Araga Gyanendra has said that the investigation so far has not revealed any link between the murder and the hijab controversy.

    He said, "The hijab issue has nothing to do with this incident. It happened for different reasons. Shivamogga is a sensitive city."

  • Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai has said that the police have found many important leads during the investigation and they are working on them.

  • Meanwhile, Karnataka Rural Development Minister KS Eshwarappa has accused Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar of inciting the murder to his remarks made in the hijab controversy.

    Eshwarappa accused Congress state president DK Shivakumar of inciting anti-social elements in the minority community.

  • The minister described Harsh as an honest person.

    He said, "She was murdered by Muslim goons. Recently DK Shivakumar had claimed that the national flag was replaced with a saffron flag and around 50 lakh saffron shawls were ordered from a factory in Surat to protest against the hijab controversy. It was only after his statements that the hooliganism increased." 

  • Responding to Eshwarappa's comment, DK Shivakumar said that he is a "mad man".

    Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also said, "There is no connection between his (Eshwarappa's) tongue and mind. The BJP leadership should sack him."
