Ukraine hopes that the forthcoming visit of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (pictured) will bring a new beginning to bilateral relations and investment guarantees, DPA reported.

Ukraine wants to be an equal partner, not a beggar, Ukrainian Ambassador to Berlin Andriy Melnik said in an interview with the week, according to Deutschlandfunk.

German Chancellor: We want peace

"Kiev wants to talk to Berlin on an equal footing, without the Germans always showing concern for Russia's position," Melnik added.

Scholz is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev tomorrow.

A meeting between the German Chancellor and Russian President Vladimir Putin is planned for the next day, BTA reminds.

Ukraine wants Scholz to announce a billion-euro aid package in Kiev to support the stability of the country's economy, Melnik said.

In addition, the German government must provide political guarantees for German investment in Ukraine, the ambassador added.

In addition, Berlin must launch a program to reduce interest rates for Ukrainian companies in order to develop the economy.

Germany will supply 5,000 helmets to the Ukrainian army

Melnik also reiterated Kiev's request for the supply of German weapons, as well as German authorities to support the desire of Ukrainians to join the EU.
