Gunmen have attacked a convoy of Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah in Tripoli.

As Al Jazeera reports, the attack took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning, while the prime minister was returning home, Telegrafi reports.

A bullet pierced the window of the car inside which the Prime Minister was, where fortunately he and the driver escaped unharmed.

Relevant authorities have launched investigations.

The attack was also reported by Reuters, which stressed that a source close to the prime minister described the incident as an assassination attempt.

The bullets were reportedly fired from close range, which according to security experts were Kalashnikov assault rifle bullets.

And if the assassination attempt is confirmed, the crisis over control of Libya could worsen, writes Reuters.
