"The epidemic of the coronavirus strain Omicron has been going on in our country for more than a month and the infection is reaching its peak.

Although the Omicron strain has mild clinical signs and low severity, it is highly contagious, has a short remission period, and causes a large number of people to become infected in a short period of time, leading to disruption of work and study. ”

APA reports that this was stated by chairman of the parliamentary committee on labor and social policy Musa Guliyev.

According to him, therefore, the prevention of the spread of Omicron infection is considered to be more effective in the world with local closures than with severe lockdowns:

“We see such local closures in Azerbaijan in some secondary schools, classrooms and kindergartens.

The winter break in universities ends on February 15.

As the start of the new training session coincides with the peak of the Omicron strain epidemic, there is a risk of a new outbreak in the coming weeks.

Dozens of students and teachers in one group, faculty, course are very likely to be infected.

M. Guliyev suggested to extend the winter holidays in higher education institutions by 7-10 days, or to hold spring classes only online until the end of February:

"By implementing the necessary local closure, vaccination and protection measures, we will be able to observe a decrease in the intensity of Omicron infection in the next 10-15 days."
