LDK MP, Driton Selmanaj was the only MP who abstained in voting on the resolution expressing opposition to holding elections in Kosovo for a referendum of the state of Serbia on constitutional changes.

Selmanaj, through a post on Facebook, has shown why he has shown why he abstained in the vote, saying that there were three reasons to do so.

Selmanaj's full post:

"Today I decided to abstain from voting on the Resolution proposed by Albin Kurti, in the extraordinary session convened by him.

There were three reasons that motivated my abstention.

The first reason:

The extraordinary session was unnecessary, pointless and without substance.

There is never a need for the Assembly to convene to remind and recall the constitutional duties that other institutions have.

The constitutional duties for the Prime Minister, the President and the Assembly are written and defined by the Constitution, they must be implemented compulsorily by all, without the need for reminder to each other.

The second reason:

I was convinced that this session had been convened by Albin Kurti to distribute part of the decision-making responsibility from his inability to make decisions in implementation of constitutional obligations.

His lack of integrity in making decisions introduced the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo into his circus in a completely meaningless way.

The third reason:

How to manage this situation in relation to our strategic partners with special emphasis on the US.

It is the first time in the new history of Kosovo that all QUINT countries come out against us.

This shows that Albin Kurti with his people has seriously affected communication and cooperation with them.

We will see the consequences of this non-cooperation in the coming days and months.

I am convinced that this is just the beginning.

Finally, I want to express the position that the sovereignty and integrity of Kosovo must be protected at all costs by all of us.

Constitutional and legal obligations must be applied without hesitation.

"Good relations with our allies must be preserved like the eyes of the forehead

," wrote Selmanaj.

Members of the Kosovo Assembly on Saturday (January 15th) adopted a resolution expressing opposition to holding a referendum in Kosovo on a referendum by the state of Serbia on constitutional changes.

During the voting of this resolution in an extraordinary session convened by the Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, 77 deputies were present in the hall.

For this resolution, there were no votes against by the deputies, but an abstention.

The resolution was proposed by the four parliamentary groups of the Vetëvendosje Movement, the Democratic League of Kosovo, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo and the Multiente Group.
