A woman who was hit by a truck in Brooklyn while trying to save the one-year-old boy she was caring for has died after not surviving her injuries.

Arcellie "Celi" Muschamp, 52 years old, died after being in a coma since December 20, when a truck hit him after he sacrificed himself only to save the one-year-old he was taking care of, Telegrafi reports.

"Unfortunately, Celi did not survive and passed away surrounded by his loved ones," wrote Patrick Mullen, the father of the one-year-old on the GoFundMe website, which raised money for the recovery of a mother of two.

"For me and my wife, she will always be the guardian angel of our son Rouwan, for whom she was sacrificed," Mullen said.

Muschamp, an immigrant from Belize, was hit by the truck as she was pushing the little boy's cart at an intersection on Union Street and Pete Avenue.

She was rushed to hospital, where she underwent immediate brain surgery - and today it was confirmed that she had died.

Meanwhile, a lawsuit has been filed against the 68-year-old truck driver.
