Police in Amsterdam today dispersed an unauthorized protest against anti-antiviral measures imposed by the Dutch government, DPA reported.

According to the Dutch news agency ANP, nearly 2,000 people had gathered for the event in front of the National Museum in Amsterdam.

According to local media, most demonstrators obeyed police orders to use loudspeakers to clear the square in front of the museum.

However, the protesters continued their march through the city center and the largest city park, Vondelpark.

Several hundred police officers were stationed in the area, ready to use water cannons.

Such unauthorized events, described by their organizers as "coffee drinking" rallies, have escalated into riots in the past, the DPA notes.
