Prominent scientist, laureate of the State Prize, Honored Scientist, Order of Glory and Honor, head of the Laboratory of Synthesis and Technology of Synthetic Oils of the Institute of Petrochemical Processes, academician Maharram Mammadyarov has died at the age of 98.

APA reports that the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences reported about it.

Maharram Mammadyarov is also the father of former Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.

Mammadyarov Maharram Ali oglu was born on October 17, 1924 in Yayji village of Julfa region. In 1932, he entered the 7-year school of Yayji village and graduated in 1939. In 1939-1941 he was a student of Nakhchivan Pedagogical College, in 1941-1942 he worked as a primary school teacher in Julfa district. He fought on the fronts of the Second World War in 1943-1944 and was awarded a number of orders and medals. He was seriously wounded in 1944 and discharged from the army after hospital treatment.

After graduating from high school in 1949, Mammadyarov was admitted to the graduate school of the Leningrad Institute of Chemical Technology and in 1953 defended his dissertation on "Interaction of formaldehyde, skin collagen with amino acids." worked as a senior researcher.

In 1955, he was sent on a business trip to Moscow to the Institute of Organic Chemistry named after N. Zelinsky of the USSR Academy of Sciences, where he conducted scientific research in the field of synthesis and conversion of vinyl ethers under the guidance of corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences MF Shostakovsky.

In 1959, at the invitation of Yusif Mammadaliyev, Mammadyarov returned to Baku and worked as a senior researcher at the Institute of Petrochemical Processes (NCPI) of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences.

The intensive development of technology in the 1960s, primarily in the military field, further strengthened the demand for lubricants. It should be noted that at that time, because petroleum oils, in many cases, did not meet these requirements, there was a need to create new types of lubricating oils by chemical synthesis. In this regard, intensive research was conducted in many countries around the world, including the former USSR, in the field of obtaining high quality synthetic oils. Mammadyarov, a well-known scientist in the field, was elected head of the laboratory. From that year until his death, he worked at the Institute of Petrochemical Processes as the head of the laboratory for the synthesis and technology of synthetic oils.

In 1970 he defended his dissertation on "Study of the reaction of high-temperature" hot-bed "chlorination of olefins C2-C4 and some transformations of the obtained chlorolefins." received the scientific title. In 1989 he was elected a corresponding member of ANAS, and in 2001 a full member.

As a result of fundamental research conducted for many years, the basis of 3 types of synthetic oils has been developed, taking into account the relationship between the chemical structure of the molecule, spatial conformation and its rheological properties through the synthesis directed by M. Mammadyarov. These include esters of norbornen series, esters of cyclic neopoliols and esters of vicinal dicarboxylic acids, which also have unique low-temperature rheological properties, which are very important for modern and promising special techniques. As the new synthetic oils do not lag behind their exemplary analogues produced abroad and in the former USSR in a number of operational parameters,The proposed oils have been successfully tested in laboratories and stands in a number of specialized centers of the former USSR (mainly Moscow and Leningrad) and are used in the production of high-pressure polyethylene as a dispersion medium for high-temperature plastic lubricants and as a composition for single engine-transmission oils. Recommended as an oil to replace the external Ondina oil, as an effective oil for time-indicating devices.

In 1973-1979, the scientist was the organizer and head of the Nakhchivan Scientific Center. During these years, serious research has been conducted to determine the ways of using the natural resources of the Autonomous Republic.

Academician M. Mammadyarov widely used the practice of sending researchers, as well as graduate students to leading scientific institutions in Baku, Moscow and Leningrad, many of whom later successfully defended their PhD and doctoral dissertations. All this has led to the fact that in the late 80s, the Nakhchivan Scientific Center has become a creative team capable of solving issues related to the fundamental and practical aspects of regional problems. One of the most important results is the development of technology for the industrial use of natural carbon dioxide from the Daridag thermal water source. For this work, a group of authors, including Mammadyarov, was awarded the State Prize of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1980.

The level of scientific work and its practical significance for the region gave rise to the establishment of a branch of the Academy of Sciences in the Autonomous Republic in 1980.

Taking into account the intensive development of biotechnology in the 80s and its direct connection with organic chemistry, by the decision of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan in 1981, Mammadyarov was appointed head of the Department of Microbiology (now the Institute of Microbiology). Many important results have been achieved in the field of petroleum microbiology and biotechnology, the production of surfactants of microbial origin.

At the initiative of the scientist, the research direction of the sector was aimed at solving microbiological issues of regional importance in the conditions when there was no production of microbiological synthesis products in the republic at that time.

In the field of oil microbiology, under the leadership of Mammadyarov, modeling of microbiological processes in oil reservoirs is carried out for the first time, which leads to the search for new ways to increase oil production in reservoirs by squeezing oil from reservoirs as a result of metabolic processes of certain groups of microorganisms. The obtained result was tested in mining conditions and accepted for application by “Azneft” PU. At the same time, among the active strains isolated from the oil-contaminated soils of Absheron, strains that reduce the surface tension of cultural solutions by 3 times were identified, which ensured the use of these solutions as a detergent for washing heavy oil residues.

The study of the biology of oil-contaminated soils of Absheron allowed academician M. Mammadyarov to develop a scientific basis for regulating the biogeochemical activity of microorganisms in order to intensify the process of soil self-cleaning.

The method proposed by him for the restoration of oil-contaminated lands was awarded a silver and bronze medal at the Exhibition of National Economic Achievements of the former USSR.

Mammadyarov was awarded a first-class diploma and a gold medal at the international exhibition in Czechoslovakia in 1986 for the creation of waste-free biotechnology for the production of feed additives rich in various physiologically active substances.

Taking into account the practical significance of the scientific work carried out for our country, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 1994 issued an order to grant the Institute of Microbiology the status of an institute.

In the same year, in the elections held on the basis of alternative competition, MA Mammadyarov was elected the first director of the institute.

The results of the scientist's scientific research are reflected in 5 monographs, about 500 scientific articles and more than 60 inventions.

Mammadyarov trained 6 doctors of sciences and 21 candidates of sciences.

Scientific and organizational activity plays an important role in the work of academician Mammadyarov. In 1975-1980 he was a member of the Scientific Council of the USSR Academy of Sciences on fine organic synthesis, in 1975-1980 chairman of the "Bilik" society in Nakhchivan AR, member of the inspection commission of the All-Union "Bilik" society, chemist of the republican "Bilik" society and Deputy Chairman of the Department of Propaganda of Biological Sciences, in 1992-1993 he served as Chairman of the Specialized Council (currently a member of the Specialized Council) at the NKPI named after YH Mammadaliyev for the award of PhD and doctoral degrees in "Petrochemistry".

Mammadyarov has repeatedly delivered scientific reports at international, all-Union and republican conferences, provided interesting information on various fields of science - general and applied chemistry, petrochemistry, catalysis, polymers, epoxy compounds, general biotechnology, chemistry and petrochemical biotechnology. , in symposiums, congresses, Moscow, Leningrad, Kiev, Minsk, Riga, Tbilisi, Almaty, Dushanbe, Tashkent, etc.

deservedly represented in the cities.

Mammadyarov has been on a business trip to a number of foreign countries (Russia, Egypt, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Mexico, Turkey, France) to get acquainted with research work and exchange experiences.

Laureate of the State Prize of the Azerbaijan SSR (1980), by the decision of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for their courage, fortitude, bravery in the fight against the Nazi-German invaders Order "War" (1985), Honorary Decree of the Board of the Republican Scientific-Economic Society (1987), Medal "70 years of the Armed Forces of the USSR" (1988) as the winner of the competition-best work in the field of environmental protection and nature management , Medal named after YH Mammadaliyev (1995), Order of Glory of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2005), Prize of the Organization of Economic Cooperation of Islamic Countries "Science and Technology" (2006), Honorary title of "Honored Scientist" of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2009), Prize named after YH Mammadaliyev ( 2014),He was awarded the Order of Honor (2014), the Honorary Diploma of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2019) and other awards.

The memory of the outstanding scientist, who made invaluable contributions to the development of science in Azerbaijan, will always live in the hearts of those who know him.
