A strong earthquake hit the resort city of Lidiang in southwest China today, where so far 15 people have been confirmed injured.

The epicenter of the earthquake with a devastating force of 5.5 on the Richter scale, occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, the local seismological agency announced, Telegrafi reports.

Earthquakes are frequent in China, especially in Yunnan province, where the tectonic plates of India and Eurasia join.

In September three people lost their lives in an earthquake that hit Sechuan province, and at least 10,000 were displaced to safer areas.

Fifteen people were injured after a M5.5 earthquake hit Lijiang City, southwest China's Yunnan Province on Sunday, according to the local seismological bureau.

Another powerful earthquake that struck China was that of 2008 with a magnitude of 7.9 from which nearly 87 thousand people have been declared missing.

Security camera footage captured the moment when the quake hit the country and everything started to shake - and even various things fell to the ground.
