The American writer Gene Hill had said: "No one can understand love correctly, except those who keep a dog."

The members of the Kosovo Police of Unit K9 also share this opinion, showing that if you do not love the dog then you better not keep it at all.

Police Officer, Hasan Qallakaj tells the Telegraph important moments in relation to "Mikin" his loyal dog.

"With the dog that we use for work, it is understood that you are emotionally connected, it becomes part of your daily life, if you become part of our unit you must love the animal, otherwise you can not function", Qallakaj confesses.

He adds how once he even had to get the family approval to take the dog home.

Hasan Qallakaj

"In advance, the consent of the family was required for us to keep a dog.

"Miki is already connected with other family members, so we as a caregiver socialize her so that we do not have incidents in the family."

Qallakaj points out that Miki does not take command from anyone else.

Unit K9 was formed in 2002 within the Kosovo Police, initially with 5 patrol operators, but in 2003 it was expanded as a unit with 5 other operators of different disciplines.

Sergeant Shemsi Krasniqi indicates that Unit K9 is divided into two groups, Center and Border Unit, where the latter includes Shemsiu and a team.

Police Officer Orhan Smani, owner of "King", tells about his German Pastor.

He is gentle with people, harsh on finding any impermissible means, weapons, etc.

"Now we will check a bus in the country, at the Vermica crossing point and we will see if there can be something illegal on this bus."

"Good Boy" responds to the sergeant when he finds a makeshift revolver in a car.

"When he finds a weapon, he is passive and does not move from the scene," says the sergeant.

Burim Kajtazi with his dog "Kobra" controls a car coming from Albania.

"We will do a control of the drug sector", adds Kajtazi.

The dogs of Unit K9 remain permanently committed to preventing and detecting illegal items in Kosovo and the message of this unit was clear.
