The government said on Friday that there is no proposal to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns and its last date is December 31, 2021.

Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj said that the official deadline for filing income tax returns is December 31 and it remains in place.

He said that this time the number of returns filed is more than last year.

More than 5.5 crore #ITRs for AY 2021-22 filed till 11:30 am today!

This includes 2.15 lakh #ITRs filed in the last one hour.

 Till 4 pm on December 31, 5,65,46,562 ITRs have been filed.

22,96,305 ITRs were filed on Friday, the last day of filing income tax returns. In the last one hour, 3,49,590 ITRs were filed.
