WhatsApp will stop working on various smartphone models as of January 1

, according to a list released today by the US conglomerate Meta's own application.

In general, these

will be Android phones 4.1 and below, as well as those that run with iOS 9 or earlier

, specified the leading brand in instant messaging in much of the world.

Among those that will no longer be compatible with the tool are the Archos 53 Platinum, HTC Desire 500, Samsung Galaxy, Trend Lite, Samsung Galaxy Trend II, Samsung Galaxy S3 mini, Caterpillar Cat B15, iPhone SE, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, among others.

At first those smartphones will stop receiving security updates, new functions, which will gradually lead to the disappearance of the application, said the statement issued.

Experts recommend that those who may be affected make

a backup copy of the application's chats so that when they change their mobile they

can recover all the information.

WhatsApp currently exceeds two billion users on the planet

, ahead of other popular tools of its kind such as Facebook Messenger or Telegram.

Although it was founded in 2009 mainly for iOS, and a year later for Android, it eventually came to Windows and spread massively since 2012.

It immediately displaced the SMS service, forever revolutionizing instant messaging thanks to the multiplication of smartphones and Internet access.

At the beginning of 2014

, the giant Facebook, this year called Meta, by Mark Zuckerberg, bought the application for 21,800 million dollars

and in 2015 it progressively reached all mobile platforms.
