Winds of up to 170 km / h and heavy rains hit the southern Turkish province of Antalya on Thursday, causing damage to infrastructure and disrupting traffic.

Following an alarm from the Turkish State Meteorological Service (TSMS) for a storm approaching from the southwest, the Governor of Antalya announced a one-day closure of educational institutions in Kemer, Kumluca and Finike districts, while local municipality teams took precautionary measures, Turkish media write. , reports Telegrafi.

But despite the efforts, some roads, homes and businesses were flooded in central Antalya and other surrounding cities, with power outages affecting several neighborhoods.

Objects falling from rooftops damaged four cars in the Kepez neighborhood.

High water levels in the Çandır and Boga streams flowing into the Gulf of Antalya on the city's famous Konyaaltı beach flooded bridges, blocking roads leading to the Hurma and Çakırlar neighborhoods.

The sea on Konyaaltı beach became muddy due to the storm, while the waves crashing on the famous rocks of Antalya were up to 30 meters high.

The road connecting the ancient city of Olympos (Çıralı) with the Antalya-Kumuca highway was also closed to traffic due to flooding.

Winds from the southeast were measured at 173 km / h on the shores of the resort town of Kemer, 115 km / h in central Antalya and 107 km / h in the Konyaaltı area.

Several fishing boats were also capsized.

As it becomes further known, adverse weather conditions are expected to affect the region until noon on Friday.
