The Lithuanian government has refused to comply with the demands of the European Union's border control agency Frontex.

APA reports quoting Welt Online that the agency demanded that Vilnius direct migrants not to Belarus, but to checkpoints.

In this case, migrants can legally cross the border and apply for asylum.

Vilnius said the proposal was an "open border" policy and disagreed.

Meanwhile, the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border remains tense.

The post's security forces said shots were heard at the border.

However, Polish Border Service spokeswoman Anna Michalska said no attempts to cross the border illegally had been reported in recent days.
