A violent earthquake shook the Greek island of Crete, Reuters reported, citing the European Mediterranean Seismological Center. 

According to the National Institute of Seismology, the quake had a magnitude of 5.9 and a depth of 2 km.

A secondary earthquake of 4.5 on the Richter scale followed, BNR reported.

No casualties have been reported so far.

There are collapsed rocks and closed roads, as well as fallen roofs of buildings.
