Catalan police have arrested two people who took part in last night's attack on the Barcelona Police Headquarters.

This happened after the march of separatist parties on the streets of the city on the occasion of the national holiday of Catalonia Diada.

According to police, there were 108,000 people in the march, but according to the parties involved, there were more than 400,000. In both cases, this is the smallest march for Catalonia's independence since 2014, which took place on against the background of increasingly obvious contradictions between the individual parties within the regional government and strained relations with the cabin of Pedro Sanchez, BNR notes.

Regional Prime Minister Pere Aragones was met with controversy with applause and shouts of "traitor", and a photo of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and the Spanish flag was burned in front of the Police Headquarters.

Clashes broke out after some protesters started shouting "Outside the occupying forces" to dismantle the fence of the police building and throw bottles, cans, fire extinguishers and iron bars from the fence at the police.

Eight Catalan police officers were slightly injured.

The procession ended on Montjuic Hill, marking the 50th anniversary of a speech by musician Pau Casals, who told the UN during the Franco regime: "I am Catalan."
