The martenits are already on the stalls.

Traditionally, everyone attaches a twisted white and red thread to their loved ones for health.

Interlaced white and red thread, symbolizing life and purity - the martenitsa comes in a variety of forms.

It can be a bracelet, a ring or the traditional Pijo and Penda to hang for health.

The materials from which they are made turn out to be important when choosing martenits.

How much will the Marches cost us this year?

For those who want to make their own martenits, I check how much the materials cost.

Ekaterina Limoncheva has been a seller-consultant for over 10 years and notices that woolen thread and wooden beads are most in demand.

"The most sold and most worn martenits are tiny pendants that have holes on both sides and a simple bracelet with white and red thread.

Otherwise, wool remains the most sought after," she explained.

Apart from white and red thread, yellow felt is also preferred among customers.

"They are looking very often for a bit of color with which to make the martenitsa.

"Martenits are no longer worn as much as brooches, but the most preferred for brooches is felt, which is used to make figurines such as bunnies and dogs", Limoncheva added.

Due to high demand, wool materials run out first.

For 50 meters of yarn, the price of wool varies between BGN 3.50 and BGN 5, and thread with polyester content is between BGN 1 and BGN 3.

Regardless of what material the martenitsa is made of, the most important thing is the feeling and mood with which it is made.
