Two parishes that have decided to switch to the New Julian calendar are the parish of the Cathedral of St. Cyril of Turausky in Brooklyn (New York, USA) and the Zhirovica Icon of the Mother of God in Highland Park (New Jersey, USA).

Until now, both parishes followed the Julian calendar.

Believers who do not want to participate in services according to the New Julian calendar have the right to move to those parishes of the BAOC that will remain on the old calendar.

According to the First Hierarch of the BAOC, each parish can determine whether it will switch to a new calendar - for this, it is not necessary to have a simple majority (as in voting on administrative church issues), but an overwhelming majority of believers.

According to Archbishop Login, this is done in order to avoid a split among the parishioners or the departure of believers from the BAOC.

When making this decision, it was taken into account that Belarusian Orthodox believers from New York and its surroundings can, if necessary, visit the BAOC parish in Queens (also in New York), which conducts services according to the old style.

Also in the state of New Jersey, next to the parish in Highland Park, there is the Belarusian Orthodox parish of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in the city of South River, which also adheres to the Julian calendar.

  • Today, most local Orthodox churches have switched to the New Julian Orthodox calendar, according to which fixed holidays are celebrated according to the new style, and movable holidays, such as Easter, according to the old Paschal.

  • The following Orthodox churches of the world remained on the old Julian calendar: Jerusalem, Russian, including the Belarusian Exarchate of the Moscow Patriarchate, Serbian and Polish.

  • Last year, the newly established Belarusian Orthodox parish of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Vilnius switched to the New Yulia calendar.

  • On November 27, 2023, the First Hierarch of the BAOC, Archbishop Svyatoslav Login, met with Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople at the residence of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul (Turkey).

  • In 2023, the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church switched to the New Julian calendar.
