A 2-year-old girl from Hong Kong has been infected with the A/H9 bird flu virus, according to the Health Protection Center of the Ministry of Health of China.

The child's condition is stable, but at the moment the authorities' concerns are mainly focused on the mode of infection.

The girl had no contact with potentially infected birds, nor did she eat undercooked poultry.

Therefore, it is possible that the virus was transmitted from person to person.
