Liang Minghao, a young Hong Kong student studying in Taiwan, was seriously injured when he was hit by a mud truck when he drove a motorcycle to Budai Port in Chiayi in January 2021, and was bedridden for nearly three years, losing most of his mobility. The driver of the mud truck was sentenced to 1 months in prison for negligent injury causing serious injury. As for the civil claims, which have not yet been concluded, it is expected that it will take another year to deal with them because the parties have not been able to reach a consensus on the amount of compensation. The outcome of the lawsuit is still pending, but Ming Hao's family has decided to return to Hong Kong, and the family of the dump truck driver took advantage of Ming Hao's departure from the stage to seek a settlement in person, and complained that the family could not afford the amount of compensation.

The car accident that occurred in Budai Port, Chiayi and affected the fate of Ming Hao in the second half of his life was finally concluded on November 11 this year. The court verdict was sent to Ming Hao's address in Chiayi at the end of November, and the Liang family finally learned the result. The criminal verdict of the Chiayi District Court in Taiwan reads: "Liu Zhaoyu (the driver of the dump truck) committed the crime of negligent injury causing serious injury and was sentenced to one month in prison."

According to the text of the judgment, the driver of the dump truck surrendered himself and accepted the referee, admitting that he was negligent in his driving, and pointed out that the construction of a fence at the corner of the intersection at the place of the accident obscured his vision, so that he could not see Ming Hao's motorcycle; The court sentenced the defendant to the above sentence because he had no criminal record because he was driving a motorcycle and failed to pay sufficient attention to the condition in front of the vehicle and did not slow down, both of which were the cause of the accident.

After Liang's father obtained the verdict, he personally explained the result to Ming Hao, and Ming Hao only responded with a smile. The criminal case was finally concluded, but the civil claim was not concluded, and the mud truck driver still appealed, and the two parties could not reach a consensus on the amount of compensation, Leung's father estimated that it would take another year to deal with it.

Before leaving Hong Kong, the family of the truck driver came to the door to seek reconciliation

On the eve of Ming Hao's return to Hong Kong, the family of the dump truck driver came to seek reconciliation in person, hoping that the amount of compensation could be further reduced. The driver's mother, Mrs. Liu, told the "Hong Kong 01" reporter that the amount of civil claims at the beginning was about more than NT$5 million (about HK$000.1 million), and she admitted that she really couldn't afford this amount, "the whole family was going to be crushed". Subsequently, the amount was lowered to more than 560 million yuan (about HK$3.000 million), and since the responsibility for the car accident was shared equally between the two parties, the Liu family was responsible for about 756 million yuan (about 1.700 million Hong Kong dollars), but Mrs. Liu bluntly said that more than 428 million yuan was also difficult for them, so she hoped that it could be reduced to 1 million yuan (about 700.1 million Hong Kong dollars).

Mrs. Liu said that her son had just started to turn the dirt truck that day, and he collided with Ming Hao's motorcycle, and both parties were at fault in the accident, "Seriously, I don't want the child (Ming Hao) to become like this today." She admitted that she has four children, who are similar in age to Ming Hao, "comparing hearts to hearts, of course, it is also very sad". Mrs. Liu continued to point out that her son was 28 years old and just got married, and her daughter-in-law was just pregnant, so she was sentenced to 8 months in prison, "My child is also very kind and simple." Mrs. Liu also pointed out that the lawsuit is still unfinished, but some assets have been seized, and it is impossible to borrow money to cash out compensation, so she hoped that Father Leung could reduce the amount of the claim and accept the settlement.

Every family has a scripture that is difficult to read, and Liang's mother replied positively to Mrs. Liu that day: "You have suffering, I also have suffering, everyone is a mother, you must also understand." He (Ming Hao) still needs to be rehabilitated, and he is still seeing a doctor, and you will pay this (amount), and we will use several times to go in (for treatment)." Liang's father said frankly that the responsibility for the car accident has been divided equally between the two parties, and the amount of compensation has been conceded many times, and there is no room for negotiation for the time being. As for the seizure of some assets, in order to ensure that compensation can be obtained, due to the different laws and regulations of the two places, he admitted that he is not familiar with the specific operation and enforcement issues, and can only be handed over to a lawyer to deal with. After a brief exchange between the two parties, no progress has been made, and follow-up matters are still pending in court.
