The restorers of the State Hermitage restored the caftan of Peter the First with funds collected from the sale of stickers with the image of the tsar in the VKontakte network.

The restored clothing was presented during the Hermitage Days at the Center for Restoration and Conservation "Stara Derevna".

The museum's director-general, Mikhail Piotrovsky, said the Hermitage had used a "modern way of raising funds". In five months the sum was raised, with the aid of which it was made possible to recover the suit.

"In the social network "VKontakte" began the distribution of stickers dedicated to Peter the First. They were bought, exchanged by consumers. A fairly large amount of money was earned - 3 million rubles, which was spent on the restoration of one of the unique caftans from the wardrobe of Peter the First," explained Svetlana Adaksina, chief curator of the collection at the Hermitage.

The caftan, made in the first decade of the 18th century, belongs to the group of "Saxon" costumes of the ruler. They are sewn in French fashion from the highest quality fabric, decorated with gallons and leather.
