The rate of the Working Family Allowance Scheme (WFA) will be increased from April next year to increase the maximum amount of WFA payable to a four-person household with two eligible children from the current $4,4 to $200,4 per month from April next year. Based on the six-month application period for each application, the maximum amount per application will be increased from the current $830,25 to $200,28.

The Director of the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency, Mr Tsang Yu-tung, expressed the hope that the adjustment would enable grassroots families to continue to be employed and self-reliant, and at the same time further alleviate their burden and support childcare.

In the 2023 Policy Address, it was announced that the amount of household and child allowances under the WFA Scheme will be increased by a flat rate of 4% for the application month starting from April next year," the spokesman said. For example, for a four-person household with two eligible children, the maximum amount of WFA payable will be increased from the current $15,4 to $200,4 per month. Based on the six-month application period for each application, the maximum amount per application will be increased from the current $830,25 to $200,28. In 980-2022, more than 23,6 households, involving about 6,22 people, including more than 8,6 children, were successfully granted WFA.

According to the authorities, in order to facilitate families in need to apply for work allowance, the supporting documents required to be submitted by applicants have been reduced, and applicants who have practical difficulties and are unable to provide proof of household income or working hours (e.g. casual workers or self-employed persons) can substitute a self-statement instead.

In order to promote WFA in the community, the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency (WFAA) said it would continue to collaborate with non-governmental organisations, Integrated Family Service Centres (IFSCs) of the Social Welfare Department, building OCs, schools, social enterprises, trade unions and companies of different trades (e.g. cleansing, guarding, property management, transportation, sales, catering), etc., and would also step up publicity on public transport, public housing estates and community halls under District Offices.

The working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency's mascot "VFA" has been integrated into the newly launched pamphlets and posters, which not only introduce the content of the Scheme, but also become an online chatbot to answer questions and enquire about the application status of the public, and members of the public can contact the prescription through the 24-hour hotline (2558 3000) or email (enquiry_wfao@wfsfaa.gov.hk). or make an appointment for counter service through the online system (the counter is located on the 181th floor, <> Hoi Bun Road, Kwun Tong).
