Here's what Meghna Gulzar said about Deepika Padukone's Chhapaak

New Delhi:

Meghna Gulzar is coming up with her next film Sam Bahadur. Vicky Kaushal is in the lead role in Sam Bahadur. These days, the entire team associated with the film is engaged in the promotion of Sam Bahadur. Earlier, Meghna Gulzar's film Chhapak was released. Which could not achieve success at the box office. Deepika Padukone was seen in the lead role in the film. Now during an interview, Meghna Gulzar has blamed Deepika Padukone's head for the flop of Chhapaak. He has admitted that Deepika Padukone's visit to Jawaharlal Nehru University i.e. JNU had an impact on the film.

In January 2020, some people created a ruckus in JNU and attacked students. Amidst all this, Deepika Padukone went to meet the protesting students in JNU. After which there was talk of boycott of the film Chhapak on social media and many types of controversies started arising. The film's director Meghna Gulzar has said that this whole incident has derailed the story of acid attack survivors and the episode became something else. When asked by The Indian Express Adda if the incident had any impact on the film, Meghna said, "Yes, it did damage the film because the talks about the film were about acid attacks, but the conversation went elsewhere. So in this way it has damaged the film. There are no two opinions about it."

In this way, Meghna Gulzar has clearly said that the performance of the film was affected due to Deepika Padukone's visit to JNU. Deepika Padukone said in a conversation with NDTV, 'I am proud that we are not scared. I think I am capable of expressing myself. I think we are thinking about this and the future of our country... It's nice to see people coming out on the streets to voice it and express themselves. If we want to see change, it is very important," he said.
