(CNN) -- Sophia Loren, an 89-year-old Italian actress, winner of the Oscar, was taken to the hospital on Sunday for surgery after suffering a fall at her home in Geneva, Switzerland.

Loren suffered several fractures to his hip and femur, his agent Andrea Giusti told CNN.

"The surgery went very well," Giusti said, adding that now "we just have to wait."

A restaurant chain bearing his name said Sunday in a social media post that Loren is now recovering from "successful surgery."

"Luckily everything went well and she will be back with us very soon," Sophia Loren restaurant said on Instagram, wishing her a speedy recovery.

The Italian public broadcaster RAI reported that Loren planned to open on Tuesday the new branch in Bari of the Sophie Loren restaurant chain, the fourth in Italy, after Milan, Florence and Rome Fiumicino.
