MWANZA: Two people including Burundian citizen Niyokindi Anthony, 44, have been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to breaking into the General Medical Office (DMO) in Sengerema District in Mwanza and stealing three motorcycles worth Sh.11,850,000.

The other defendant sentenced to serve the sentence is Isungangh'olo resident of Sengerema District in the region Ibrahim Mshengezi, 55, where they have been convicted of two offences: breaking office and stealing.

In the three-defendant case, another defendant, Isungangh'olo resident of Sengerema District, Anold Paul, 25, has denied the charges, with the court's senior resident judge Evod Kisoka ordering him remanded in custody after a lack of bail.

Earlier, reading the details of the offence, the State Prosecutor, Police Agent Theophilius Bei said the defendants committed the offences on August 20.2023, by stealing three Government motorcycles with registration numbers, SM15342, SM15343 and SM15349, all of them in violation of the Penal Code Chapter 16 of the 2022 edition.

However, the charge against defendant number three (Anold Paul) who has pleaded not guilty will continue in October.2.2023
