At the Tseung Kwan O desalination plant, which is still under construction, workers were found fainting at the bottom of the water tank tonight (4th) and sent to hospital to die. At about 6 p.m. on the evening of the incident, the police and the fire service received a report that a 34-year-old worker surnamed Liu Nan fainted at the bottom of a water tank about 10 meters deep and without water storage at the construction site above. Fire and ambulance personnel rushed to the scene and successfully rescued the subject at about 7pm, he was unconscious and taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital for rescue, but eventually died. After investigation, the police classified the case as an industrial accident.
The Industrial Casualty Association said officers rushed to the hospital to assist the family of the deceased, saying that the deceased had left behind his wife and two sons. The CWI requested the WSD and the Labour Department to thoroughly investigate the causes of the accident and the contractors to do a good job in the aftermath to help the families of the victims tide over the difficulties.

In response to the Hong Kong 01 enquiries, the WSD said that at about 6pm today, a contractor worker at the site of the seawater desalination plant in Tseung Kwan O was found fainting in an unfilled water tank. The Labour Department said that it had dispatched staff to the scene immediately after receiving the report and was investigating the cause of the accident.
The police said that at 4:6 p.m. on the 14th, a worker reported that a 34-year-old boyfriend surnamed Liu was suspected of falling from a climbing ladder about 15 meters high during the waterproof paint project in a desalination plant at a desalination plant on Kwan O Environmental Protection Avenue about 2 meters deep, and then fainted. The case was listed as an industrial accident – death on hospital arrival.

Located in District 137 of Tseung Kwan O, the Tseung Kwan O desalination plant has an initial phase of approximately $90 billion and is constructed, designed and constructed by an AJC consortium comprising Acciona Agua SA, Jardine Computing Machinery Limited and China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited, which commenced in December 2019 and is currently under construction and is expected to be operational this year. Once operational, the daily drinking water production will reach 12,13 cubic meters, and space will be reserved for future expansion to a final water production of 5,27 cubic meters per day, as well as related facilities.
