The Police said that between 28 last month and 3 this month, there was an attempted burglary and a number of cases of suspicious persons found in the area of Fei Eshan and Jinglanshu. In view of this, the Tseung Kwan O District Task Force, the Military Patrol Unit, the Police Community Relations Unit, the Police Dog Unit, the Kowloon East Mobile Unit and the Emergency Unit, with the air support of the Government Flying Service, launched an anti-burglary operation codenamed Roll for seven days yesterday (6 December) to combat burglary crime. On the first day of the operation, the Police successfully arrested a suspicious Mainland man suspected of being involved in burglary or suspicious discovery.

During the operation, about 20 police officers with dogs conducted anti-burglary patrols along Feiyun Road, including hillsides and outside housing estates, and set up police barricades along the upper site during dark hours to intercept suspicious vehicles and passengers. On the first day of the operation (6th), officers of the PTU intercepted a suspicious man on the footpath near the wall house on Clear Water Bay Road. The Mainland man admitted to having entered Hong Kong illegally earlier and was arrested on suspicion of illegal entry. After preliminary investigation, the arrested person is suspected to have been hiding in the suburban jungle for a period of time, suspected to be related to burglary or suspicious persons discovering the case. The police do not rule out the involvement of accomplices and will step up the hunt. The case is still under investigation.

The Police Community Relations Unit also distributed leaflets to nearby households to remind the public to enhance their anti-theft awareness. The police recommend that residents living on nearby hillsides install anti-theft systems for their own safety and notify relatives and friends when they go out.

Tseung Kwan O District is committed to maintaining close liaison with the public in combating burglary crimes, and encourages residents to provide timely information on the bandits' crime clips, facial features and escape directions through the Ling Po Hotline channel, so that the Police can have more clues to solve crimes and work together to fight crimes.

In addition, the Police also urged the public to be vigilant at all times, strengthen the awareness of burglary security in residential security, lock doors and windows, guard against thieves, and pay more attention to suspicious activities on hillsides near their residences. If any member of the public or FDH encounters a suspicious person, they should seek assistance from the Police immediately.
