The Hong Kong Laureate Forum, organised by the Hong Kong Laureate Forum Committee, will be held in mid-November. The Forum Committee held a kick-off ceremony today (11th) with the theme of "Bringing together top minds. "Inspiring Scientific Achievements" will bring together more than 6 Shaw Prize laureates from all over the world who have achieved outstanding achievements in the three fields of astronomy, life sciences and medicine, and mathematical sciences to Hong Kong to share their top research and insights with more than 20 young scientists from more than 30 different countries and regions around the world through seminars, lectures and dialogues. It also inspires the next generation and nurtures new stars in scientific research.

The Hong Kong Laureate Forum will be held at Hong Kong Science Park from 11 to 13 November. Since the establishment of the Shaw Prize, more than 18 outstanding scientists from different regions have been awarded. Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr Shaw Prize Chairman Yang Gangkai said that this year, the Shaw Prize Foundation will work with the Hong Kong Laureate Committee to bring more than 100 Shaw Prize winners to Hong Kong to participate in the inaugural Forum, and share rich knowledge of the vast universe, tiny cells and mathematical mysteries with participants at the Forum. A forum that brings together cutting-edge minds can help stimulate new inspiration and inspire young people to develop a passion for science."

2013 Shaw Prize in Astronomy winner Steven A. Professor Steven A Balbus and winner of the 2020 Shaw Prize in Life Sciences and Medicine. Professor Gero Miesenböck is one of the two scholars who will come to Hong Kong.

Speaking at today's launching ceremony, Mr Tang Wai-cheung, Chairman of the Hong Kong Laureate Forum, former President of Polytechnic University, said that the Forum is committed to promoting cross-generational, cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary academic exchanges and enhancing the understanding and interest of the younger generation in different fields of science and technology. To support youth development in Hong Kong and beyond by promoting exchanges among young scientists from around the world.

The Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Mr Sun Dong, said in his speech that Hong Kong has always been world-renowned in terms of investment, talent, infrastructure and business, but the advantages of innovation and technology are still not widely recognized, so the Government has always regarded promoting the development of innovation and technology as a top priority and invested resources to support the research development of local universities. He believed that the Forum would provide a valuable opportunity for young scientists to learn about Hong Kong's achievements in innovation and technology development by visiting research facilities and interacting with renowned local scientists during the Forum.
