The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has called the first ever press conference dedicated to unidentified flying objects (UFOs).

NASA presented the first preliminary data from the study, in which 16 experts participated. The study, whose official results are due out at the end of July, aims to determine whether UFO signals sent to NASA over the years are actually extraterrestrial in nature.

At the press conference it became clear that the majority of the 800 studied materials made in the period 1966-2023. There is a rational explanation of what he saw, in most cases it was "drones or balloons".

However, experts added that there are cases between 2 and 5 percent where they could not find a scientific explanation, so they will need more time to study them.

"The poor quality of some of the materials provided makes it difficult for us to draw any conclusion about these unidentified phenomena," said Nicola Fock, NASA's head of science programs.

David Schpergel, who led the research team, explained that the origin of UFOs remains unclear, adding that "there are no guarantees that every strange object in the sky can be explained."

NASA's task force was formed in June last year to shed light on UFO issues and thousands of signals related to them. Experts assured that they did not hide anything from the public and stressed that they, too, being scientists, also "want to know the truth, as it is in their nature", informs 20minutos.
