The Palme d'Or was won by French director Justine Trieux for the film "The Trajectory of the Fall". The prize was presented to the winner by actress Jane Fonda.

The main character of the film is a German writer, whose husband mysteriously dies after falling from a cliff. She is suspected of murder, and the only witness to the tragedy, her blind son, begins to doubt the innocence of his mother.
