A man named David Lufungulo, 30, has died after drowning while taking a bath in a pool in Samina Street, Nyankumbu County in Geita.

Geita District Fire and Rescue Centre chief Wambura Fidelis confirmed the incident while speaking to Samina Street residents immediately after recovering the body.

Wambura said preliminary investigations show the cause of the accident was the depth and volume of mud of the pond where the deceased went to shower and found himself drowned.

Samina local government chairman Joseph Kazungu said the deceased was a very unwelcoming person in the area as he has not long since moved to Samina Street.

"If you look at the deceased it's someone who has come recently, he probably didn't know the depth of this pool, he's been probably seeing it and swimming he didn't know how deep it is," Kazungu said.

Witness Golani Simon said the deceased found them in the area washing and asked for soap to wash and when he was given soap he took off his clothes and threw himself in water and drowned.

The victim's brother-in-law, Joel David, said before the death they invited the deceased to go and take a shower with him in the pool and he refused and informed them he was not ready to go to the shower at the time.
