Since the Lunchang case in Tszle Estate last December last year, when septuagenarian parents hammered their daughter to death with a long-term illness, Hong Kong 25 launched a series of "Save the Carers" report, advocating the government from multiple angles to stop treating caregivers coldly. However, since the end of last year and the first half of this year, there have been at least four tragedies involving caregivers.

Legislative Council member Di Chi-yuan of the Social Welfare Sector criticized today that the government is not anxious for urgent caregivers, and the economic subsidies provided to them are only "superficial" support, failing to truly face up to the problem of insufficient support and urging the reform of caregiver policies as soon as possible, otherwise he fears that future tragedies will follow: "Every bloody lesson is a big (price)."

Dik Chi-yuan said that the welfare sector has always advocated the Government to implement the carer policy, but the Government is not anxious for the public, even though the Policy Address last year proposed to regularize the carer allowance and increase the amount of subsidy, but the maximum number of places is only 1,30, compared with about 24,<> carers in Hong Kong, which obviously fails to meet the demand. He added that the government has also proposed to set up a <>-hour support hotline and online information platform for carers, but it is still in the tender stage after half a year, and the service has not yet been launched.

Di Zhiyuan promoted the establishment of regional support to provide emotional counseling

Di Chi Yuen said that he advocated that the government reform the carer policy as soon as possible, formulate a clear definition of carer, and support should not only be for the elderly and caregivers of the disabled, but also for the mentally ill, special education students, etc. In addition, the amount of caregiver allowance should be gradually increased, starting at least 5,6 to <>,<>; Increase district service support to provide emotional counselling, care training, social worker referral services for caregivers, etc., and plan day and home care services in the long run.

He described every tragedy involving caregivers as "a lesson in blood, paying a lot (the price)", in addition to more high-profile cases, more marginal cases, "every time I see them, I will shout and sun, because 24 hours a day, 365 days of care, see the way out." He believes that the government must have empathy and "do faster and do more", otherwise he is worried that more tragedies will come.
