Asteroid 2023 JK is expected to pass by Earth on Sunday, NASA reported. It will pass our planet a little more than 1.6 million kilometers away.

According to NASA, 2023 JK is the size of a passenger plane. And the Jerusalem Post compared the asteroid's length to that of 18 adult male Pacific walruses lying in a row with their heads bowed.

On Sunday, asteroid 2023 JD4, which is about the same size as 2023 JK, will pass by Earth. However, it will pass our planet at almost twice the distance of 2023 JK, the US space agency said.

NASA experts predict a busy weekend in space - an asteroid the size of a bus will approach more than 4.5 million kilometers from our planet today.

On the same day, 2023 JL2, the size of an airplane, is expected to pass by, and the roughly seven-meter-wide HG11 will reach the closest distance it has ever been to Earth at 4.5 million kilometers away.

Deadly Asteroid Passes Past Earth

The passage of 2023 JK may be close compared to other space-floating bodies, but New Yorkers shouldn't change their plans for the weekend. The Moon is 385,000 kilometers from Earth.

"Approximately once a year, an asteroid the size of a car hits Earth's atmosphere, creates an impressive fireball and burns up before it reaches the surface," NASA said in a statement.

About 65 million years ago, however, a mountain-sized asteroid wiped out dinosaurs and most of life on Earth.
