The problem of the lack of staff in the health system in the country is exacerbated. According to the Bulgarian Association of Health Care Professionals, 30,000 nurses and over 4000,<> midwives are missing in Bulgaria.

"In five years, our complaints that we have many hospitals will not exist because 1/3rd of the hospitals will close themselves because there are no nurses." This is the chairman of the Bulgarian Medical Association Dr. Ivan Madzharov in the show "Your Day" on NOVA NEWS

"Two years ago, we said that the average age of doctors and nurses is over 55 years of age. More than a quarter of doctors and nurses in Bulgaria are over 65 years of age, "said the chairman of the BMA.

According to him, the problem with nurses is the hardest. The reasons are many, he said, adding that urgent measures need to be taken.

The BMA chief dissatisfied with the distribution of money for health

As an example, there was inclusion from the hospital in Mezdra, where the shortage of medics is clearly visible. "The average age of our doctors is over 56 years old. We have 36 employed posts, only 20 doctors work all week. With the available resources we manage to cope with the situation, but in the next 10 years our doctors will be in retirement. If this trend continues, in 10 years the crisis will not be deprived in any way." This was stated by Svetozar Lukanov – manager of the hospital in Mezdra.

"It is extremely difficult with both doctors and nurses to find someone willing to learn to work. There is a shortage of surgical nurses," Lukanov explained.
