[Reporter Ling Meixue/Taipei Report] David, the French pianist who was praised by "The New York Times" for his "refined music and elegant technique".

Frye, who was going to perform in Taiwan three years ago, was affected by the epidemic and finally came to Taiwan after the global borders were unblocked. He will perform at the Taipei National Concert Hall on May 10 and at Kaohsiung Weiwuying on May 12. Bach's Complete Goldberg Variations.

Frye, who just arrived in Taiwan, met the media for the first time yesterday (9th). He talked about his relationship with Bach. He said that he was shocked when he heard the "St. Matthew Passion" around the age of 10. It changed his life ever since.

Fry started learning piano at the age of 4. His father was a philosophy teacher and his mother was a German teacher. The family environment made him prefer German and Austrian music.

Just as the German "Die Welt" praised him as "the best example of a philosophical musician", Fry once said: "The "Goldberg Variations" contains various elements of human life, all-encompassing: humor, Seriousness, elegance, dance...it’s like a summary of life.” Fan Mannong, artistic director of Xinxiang, who strongly invited him to perform in Taiwan this time, also said: “In modern times, we rarely think that Bach’s works are poetic, but From Fry's fingertips, there are poem after poem, talking about heaven, earth, universe and inner world."

During the epidemic, Frye had just finished recording the entire CD of "Goldberg Variations". He believed that the most interesting aspect of this Bach's longest variation for a single instrument was its "structure".

Frye said that Bach's works are like buildings, which need to be deconstructed in terms of architectural structure and proportions. They cannot be played into 30 sketches, but should be changed under each theme, and adjusted in rhythm and speed to find unity and harmony. It is a difficult challenge to run through the central spirit of these 30 pieces.

It is to regard oneself as an architect, and then adjust the speed, rhythm and proportion as a whole after deconstruction.

Fry believes that Bach's music is not suitable to be restricted by style. Whether it is the works of the Baroque period or the Romantic period, they all talk about human sensibility and feelings, and he will interpret according to his own feelings.

Therefore, after finishing the recording of the album, he no longer listens to his own CD, or plays the same as the CD, because "every current interpretation is very special, and different changes can be found in it". Why musicians visit different concert halls in person to create unique moments.
