Another meeting was held with a group of participants of the 138-day environmental action organized on the Lachin-Khankendi road in the first half of the day on April 28 at the invitation of the state representatives of Azerbaijan.
APA reports that 10 eco-activists representing the participants of the action took part in the meeting held in the administrative building of the special representation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Shusha district.
At the meeting, the special representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Shusha district, Aydin Karimov, noted that a new situation arose due to the establishment of a checkpoint on April 23 by the units of the State Border Service on the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan, on the border with Armenia, at the beginning of the Lachin-Khankendi road.
Therefore, the participants were once again offered to stop the action.
Eco-activists said that they were very happy with the establishment of a border control mechanism by our border guards at the beginning of the Lachin-Khankendi road, thereby ensuring transparency, rule of law and safety of traffic on the road.
Nevertheless, eco-activists noted that the action did not fully reach the goal.
They once again emphasized that they demanded from the command of the peacekeeping contingent to stop the illegal exploitation of our natural resources in the Azerbaijani territories under the temporary control of the Russian peacekeepers and to enable the monitoring of the relevant institutions of Azerbaijan in those territories.
In response to repeated calls from state representatives, the representatives of the eco-activists said that there is a need to conduct general consultations with the participants of the action in order to consider the issue of stopping the action.
After the meeting held in the first half of the day, the eco-activists returned to the area where the humanitarian action was held to consult on the discussed issues.
After the consultation and discussion of the participants of the action, the decision made by the eco-activists was announced a little earlier, and the statement of the representatives of the non-governmental organizations, eco-activists and young volunteers who were the participants of the action was read.
The statement stated:
"Representatives of non-governmental organizations, eco-activists and young volunteers protested against the illegal exploitation of natural resources in the territories of the Russian peacekeeping contingent of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which started on December 12, 2022, on the part of the Lachin-Khankendi road that passes through the territory of Shusha, for 138 days. , Continue.
In the past, we raised slogans about the looting of our natural resources during the day and night action, and asked the international community and organizations to put an end to the environmental crimes committed in the territories of Azerbaijan.
As young volunteers and eco-activists, we are honored to convey Azerbaijan's demand in this field to the world community and to wage our rightful struggle!
We have always felt the support of our people in the environmental action, which was attended by thousands of participants for 138 days, and this support has inspired us even more.
The establishment of a checkpoint on April 23, 2023 by units of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan on our sovereign territory, on the border with Armenia, at the beginning of the Lachin-Khankendi road, makes us proud and happy as every citizen of Azerbaijan.
Because the creation of the border-control mechanism is aimed at preventing any provocation by ensuring the transparency of traffic on the road, the rule of law and the safety of traffic.
This decisive step aimed at preventing illegality in the territories of Azerbaijan also means that the participants of the action have partially achieved their goals.
We want to announce that we, eco-activists and young volunteers, have partially achieved our demands, as well as taking into account the repeated appeals made to us by state representatives, we have decided to temporarily stop our protest on April 28, 2023 from 18:00.
We declare that our demands from the command of the peacekeeping contingent to stop the illegal exploitation of mineral deposits in the territories of Azerbaijan, where the Russian peacekeeping contingent is temporarily located, and to ensure the monitoring of environmental and other consequences, remain valid, and if these demands are not met, we reserve the right to resume the action!
We express our deep gratitude to the citizens of Azerbaijan who have supported us for 138 days, to those who contributed to ensuring our safety in the area, to the volunteer medical workers who guard our health, and to the local and foreign mass media that conveyed the demands of our action to the world community!
We declare once again:
Azerbaijan is awake, supporting its wealth!
Azerbaijan is united, it has its wealth!
April 28, 2023".
