Because of the chicken pox boom, the vaccine should become part of the mandatory immunization calendar in our country.

Steps towards the change have already been initiated by the chief state health inspector Assoc. Angel Kunchev.

Now this immunization is only recommended, and parents buy the preparation themselves, Nova TV reported.

According to data from the health authorities,

since the beginning of the year,

there have been more than 14,000

cases of chicken pox in our country.

Statistics show that by the time they turn 14, about 85 percent of children will have the disease.

And if it is not so dangerous for the little ones, reminds Assoc. Kunchev, then if an adult is infected, the consequences can be severe.

In 13 of the countries in the European Union, the varicella vaccine is free and is part of the national immunization calendar.

Thus, the spread of the virus has decreased by nearly 90%.

The idea is that this will happen in our country soon.

Since the beginning of the year, there have been about 15 cases of chicken pox in 48 DG "Brothers Grimm".

In each of them, they quarantined the entire group of the sick child for a period of 21 days.

"4-5 years - this is the age in our kindergarten, but there are also cases at 6-7 years old," commented nurse Maria Georgieva.

More and more parents are turning to a vaccine, says the nurse, because with immunization the child can continue to visit the garden.

"Parents say that they administered the vaccine after consulting the general practitioner.

They buy it from pharmacies, very difficult.

If not, they are looking for her outside of Bulgaria," Georgieva pointed out.

If the vaccine enters the mandatory immunization calendar, the state will have a commitment to procure the necessary quantities so that the preparation is free and easily accessible to parents.

The procedure has already been activated, the chief state health inspector said.

A GP has pointed out the biggest mistake parents make when their children catch chickenpox

“This vaccine has been on the calendar in most developed countries for more than 15 years and has shown a great effect.

The morbidity there is extremely low.

Most adversaries say "She chicken pox runs smoothly".

Yes, in 95% of cases it is mild, but in 30,000 cases, even 1% of them is a large enough number - 300 children with complications.

If we can save it for the children, we are obliged to do it", said Prof. Kunchev categorically.

Kaloyan did not suffer from chicken pox, but because of the many sick children around him, his mother is already considering whether to immunize him.

And supports the idea that the vaccine should be mandatory.

"This would help more people to get vaccinated and be protected - not only them, but also the elderly," is Gergana's opinion.

The varicella vaccine consists of two doses, the second being administered 8 weeks after the first.
