Billionaire Rupert Murdoch, who owns the influential media company News Corp, has broken off his engagement less than a month after he publicly announced it, AFP reported, citing Vanity Fair.

The Australian media mogul and naturalized American citizen, who is 92, had intended to marry Anne Leslie Smith, 66.

Murdoch announced the news of his fifth engagement in March to the New York Post, one of the publications owned by his media company.

He said he proposed on St. Patrick's Day, which is celebrated on March 17.

According to Vanity Fair, citing people close to the billionaire, the engagement was unexpectedly called off.

Rupert Murdoch felt uncomfortable with the evangelical views of his future wife.

The wedding was supposed to be at the end of summer.

Rupert Murdoch divorced his fourth wife, American model Jeri Hall, in August 2022 after six years together.

His fortune is estimated by "Forbes" magazine at more than 17 billion US dollars.
