At the beginning of 2023, there were 23,208 settlements in Belarus, according to the National Statistical Committee.

In 2022, the number of settlements in Belarus decreased by 19 to 23,208. This happened due to the "death" of rural settlements.

Of them, 13 disappeared in the Vitebsk region, 3 in the Gomel region, 2 in the Minsk region, and 1 in the Horaden region.

Over the past 20 years, the number of settlements in Belarus has decreased by 1,052 — at the beginning of 2003, there were 24,260 of them in Belarus.

The population of Belarus is also shrinking.

According to Belstat, in 2022 the population of Belarus decreased by 54,907 people and amounted to 9,200,617 people.
