[Reporter Wang Jinyi/Hualien Report] The Tzu Chi Charity Foundation and the "Doctors of the World-Türkiye" (Doctors of the World-Türkiye) signed a charity cooperation yesterday to provide medical assistance to the victims of the Syrian earthquake.

The foundation pointed out that through the "Turkish World Physician Union", a team of doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, community health and social psychology will be formed in Syria to provide medical services to the Syrian people affected by the years of civil war and earthquakes.

The signing ceremony was signed by Yan Bowen, CEO of Tzu Chi Charity Foundation, and representatives of the Turkish World Federation of Physicians at Jingsi Hall in Hualien. The "World Federation of Physicians" has long provided emergency and long-term medical services for vulnerable groups. Since 2016, it has provided medical services for vulnerable people and displaced persons in northwestern Syria and parts of Turkey. It has expertise in earthquake management and infectious disease response. Ji pointed out that after the strong earthquake at the border between Turkey and Syria in February, resources from all walks of life, including Tzu Chi and the World Federation of Physicians, immediately invested in post-disaster work in Turkey, but the disaster-stricken people in neighboring Syria could not get enough resources.

The two parties will carry out charitable cooperation and jointly provide medical services for the Syrian people. In the next year, a mobile medical station will be established in the disaster area to provide medical services including trauma, obstetrics and gynecology, as well as consultation services for post-disaster trauma.

Yan Bowen said that the cooperation between the two parties will be committed to providing physical and mental health support for those traumatized by the earthquake, and will do their best to assist the victims and not let them fight alone. As long as we work together, we will make a difference.

Cem Hatunoğlu, project director of the World Federation of Physicians in Turkey, said that the disaster not only affected the general public, but also affected medical staff, medical institutions, and immigrant health centers. Weather, health-related issues, illness, post-disaster trauma, etc. all affect the mood and feelings of disaster victims.

Whether it is in Turkey or Syria, public transportation is damaged, and it is difficult for people to find medical institutions in the disaster area. Therefore, one of the cooperation with Tzu Chi is to strengthen mobile medical care.
