The "rarest of the rare" pink diamond, valued at $35 million, will be offered at an auction in June in New York, BTA and France Press report, citing Sotheby's auction house.

The 10.57 carat "impurity-free" gem was mined in 2019 from a mine in Botswana.

Its gross weight is 23.78 carats.

The pink diamond will be offered for sale on June 8 in New York, which has risen to the rank of an international center for the art and luxury goods market.

Sotheby's auction house, owned by tycoon Patrick Drahi, said the bidding for the $35 million Eternal Pink diamond would be held during a special jewelry week.

The Sotheby's jewelry department describes the pink diamond as "the rarest of the rare."

Its estimate of approximately $3.3 million per carat is the highest for a gemstone offered on the market, the auctioneers also noted.

In New York's booming auction market, auction houses Sotheby's, Christie's and Phillips are turning their attention to sectors other than paintings and sculpture, including jewelry, clothing and chattels of art stars, letters, sporting goods.

The oldest known diamond on the planet has been discovered

Sotheby's believes that this pink diamond - one of the most sought after by investors - is much rarer than a painting by the Belgian surrealist René Magritte or a work by the American pop art master Andy Warhol, due to its purity and perfection.

The current record of $71.2 million for a pink diamond sale was set in Hong Kong in 2017. Also in Hong Kong, the Williamson pink diamond sold last year for $57.7 million.
