[Reporter Ling Meixue/Taipei Report] The late senior painter Lin Yushan (1907-2004) was one of the most important representatives of Taiwanese gouache. This work was designated as the first "National Treasure" work by a modern Taiwanese painter.

Lin Yushan's son, Lin Boting, donated his father's rare gelatin and silk painting "The Yellow Cow" during the Japanese occupation to the Museum of History in 2006, and this year (2023) donated another 58 pieces (groups) including "Yeliu Seaside"; therefore, On the eve of Lin Yushan's 117th birthday (April 1), the Museum of History held the "Guardian‧Time" donation ceremony yesterday (30) and announced the restoration results of the "Scalper" silk painting in the collection.

Lin Yushan's "Yellow Cattle" (26x32.8 cm) painted in 1941 has been restored.

Liang Yongfei, director of the Museum of History, said that the relationship between Lin Yushan and Lin Boting and the Museum of History is a "two-generation relationship", and the relationship is very deep; The combined personal savings totaled 2 million yuan. In 2003, he donated to the Museum of History to set up the "Mr. Lin Yushan Art Research Award" to cultivate talents.

After Lin Yushan passed away, the Museum of History planned and organized the "Lin Yushan Centenary Exhibition" in 2006, and published "Taiwan Art Lighting: A Collection of Previous Winning Papers of Mr. Lin Yushan's Art Research Award" in 2019.

The Museum of History has collected 87 pieces of works by Lin Yushan. Yesterday, in addition to the donation ceremony for new collections, the newly restored "Yellow Cattle" painting was also displayed on site.

Lin Boting said that in terms of the subject matter and time of the painting, the painting should be recommended by Lin Yushan in 1941 (exemption from censorship) and produced before the exhibition of the painting "Double Bull" (now in the collection of Beijing Art Museum) in the 4th National Exhibition of Oriental Paintings. Before that, Lin Yushan drew many sketches about Taiwanese folk water buffaloes and yellow cattle, many of which are currently in the collection of the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.
