The historical museum in Gorna Oryahovitsa presents in an exhibition finds from the archaeological research in 2020-2022.

The opening of the exhibition "Archaeological stories about Gornoryakhiv's past" is the last stage of the museum's activities under a project financed by the Ministry of Culture in 2022 worth BGN 18,270. With its implementation, all exhibits will be presented in completely new exhibition equipment, he pointed out Dr. Plamen Mademov, director of the museum.

The exhibition will show the results of the research carried out on the medieval fortress "Ryakhovets" and the eastern necropolis at its foot during the last three years.

The excavations of the fortress were financed through projects approved by the Ministry of Culture with a total value of BGN 78,070. The team investigating the fortress is headed by Iliyan Petrakiev from the Regional History Museum - Veliko Tarnovo, deputy head Maya Ivanova from the History Museum - Gorna Oryahovitsa and scientific consultant Prof. Hitko Vachev.

Over the years, numerous interdisciplinary research and DNA analysis as well as radiocarbon and archaeomagnetic dating have been carried out – some of these results will be presented at the opening of the exhibition.

In 2021, a 13th-century necropolis was discovered at the foot of the fortress during excavation activities for the reclamation of a landfill for household waste.

The findings of the studies, financed by the municipality of Gorna Oryahovitsa with a budget of BGN 30,870, will also be presented in the exhibition.

The results of the field archaeological searches in the lands of Parvomaitsi and Dolna Oryahovitsa in the fall of 2022 will be included.

A special place in the exhibition will be given to the "Ryakhovets" school - the first in Bulgaria, engaged in training students in a real archaeological environment.

The initiative is of the Historical Museum - Gorna Oryahovitsa and the team conducting the field surveys, with the support of local businesses.

The exhibition will be opened on March 30.
