Eight months after the suspicious death of fashion designer Kathryn Gallagher, investigators declared the case a murder, UPI reported.

Q. The New York Times cited the New York Police Department as announcing that the investigation into Catherine Marie Gallagher's death has been turned into a homicide after a medical examiner ruled that the designer died of acute poisoning. BTA reported.

An autopsy on Gallagher, 35, revealed she had been intoxicated with a lethal cocktail containing fentanyl, parafluorofentanyl and ethanol.

Investigators believe the intent was a robbery and that's why Gallagher was drugged.

The fashion designer was found dead in July 2022 in her apartment in Manhattan, New York.

New York's NBC News reported Friday that law enforcement could not determine whether anything was missing from Gallagher's home.

"The coroner's decision today confirms what we thought: Katie was the victim of a crime," Gallagher's family told the broadcaster.

"We withheld this information pending the official ruling.

Spreading this news helps us clarify things, seek justice and grieve more openly.”

The designer's death is one of several cases being investigated as drug-related thefts in New York, the Guardian reported.

In the past year, there were 26 such cases in the city.

Gallagher is a graduate of the Rhode Island Academy of Design.

“She was unique, beautiful, smart, unflappable and always wanting.

She was hardworking and talented, she had so many ideas and plans for future projects," the Academy wrote in a text in memory of the late designer.

“We are so proud of her and all she accomplished in her short but full and beautiful life.

To us she was Katie, our daughter, sister and friend.'

Gallagher launched her fashion label in 2010. Among the stars who have worn her outfits are Lady Gaga, Rita Ora and Laverne Cox.
