[Reporter Tu Yingru/Taipei Report] "Life Determines Consciousness: Gao Chongli" will be launched at the North American Pavilion on March 25th. It will be curated by Li Weiyi. Installation, animation, audio-visual equipment and other technologies explore the essence of video and video equipment, constantly examine the practice of audio-visual production, and respond to the process of human beings being influenced and transformed by self-created objects since the second industrial revolution.

"Cleaning Up Your Appearance", 1983-2023, when you walk into it, you can see your own back, telling that people cannot control their own images, 75-inch screen, web camera, and depth camera.

Gao Chung-li was born in Taipei in 1958 and graduated from the National Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts in 1979. He is one of the pioneers of experimental video creation in Taiwan and was also a founding member of the avant-garde exhibition "Xi Soil" in the 1980s.

In his early years, he studied in the Department of Printing and started to get in touch with photography a lot. He was also inspired by the history of Western images. He continued to study the principles of image generation and manually experimented with his own image production tools. He hoped to introduce Marx's materialism into visual art for discussion and establish Own video machine culture and thinking.

More than 40 works are exhibited this time, including early works "ASA's Nth Power", "Flying Mosquito Incense", selected "body and soul", "photochemical mechanical moving image installation", "slide presentation film" " Ming Box Cinema", "Book of Objects", "Time Position" and "One Card Box Cinema" and other representative works, and released 7 large-scale dynamic mechanical devices for this exhibition.

In the new work exhibited for the first time, in "Data Cowboys or Stay Away from Ukraine", two cowboys who are the same size as humans can be seen confronting each other with their guns drawn, exploring the relationship between real and virtual images. Through the switching of image movements, our eyes become one A video machine automatically completes the filming of the cowboy confrontation scene on the retina; the work "Imperial Prosthetic Limb" uses prosthetic limbs used by Japanese soldiers during World War II, artificial objects left over from imperialist wars, and uses light and shadow projection and swing rhythm , interpreting the ups and downs of the theater of light and shadow.

"Life Determines Consciousness: Gao Chongli" is on view until June 25.
