Mzumbe University, located in Morogoro region, has launched a special gender desk office, in order to fulfill the government's goals of reducing and completely ending acts of gender violence in universities and in the community in the country.

The stage of launching the office of the desk is the implementation of the government's order through the Ministry of Social Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups with the aim of these desks having the responsibilities of eradicating all forms of violence in college areas.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor William Mwegoha, said this on March 23, 2023 at the college in his speech to the Regional Head of Morogoro, Fatma Mwassa at the launch of the desk at the Morogoro main campus.

The Regional Head was represented by the Morogoro District Head, Rebeca Nsemwa.

Professor Mwegoha has said that the management of the college has provided a building, repaired it and purchased equipment for the use of the appointed members of the desk, which will work in accordance with the government guidelines.

He has mentioned the methods that will be used to get information about sexual violence, including the target coming directly to the offices of the gender desk, calling through an open number that anyone can call and giving their information through e-mail and using the comment box.

And the Head of Morogoro District, Nsemwa on behalf of the head of the region has said, currently there has been a large increase in incidents related to sexual violence and shameful attacks involving family members and society in general.

He has said that the gender desk should be a springboard to eradicate gender violence in college, while asking the members of the desk to keep secrets and provide appropriate support to victims of gender violence, in order to build a better society.
